The Missing Treats
The Warden had counted the candy twice. Everything was there. Five minutes later, half the red velvet treats were gone. Then came the shouting. Banana Bandit was chasing someone across the yard. Campfire Convict had frosting on his hat. Jailhouse Java was holding an empty tray and demanding answers. And in the middle of it all sat Velvet Villain on a crate, legs crossed, looking completely innocent. Crumbs covered his shirt. The Warden stared at him. “Anything you’d like to tell me?” Velvet Villain slowly licked frosting off his finger. “Nope.” Behind him, three candy wrappers fell out of his pocket. Then a cupcake rolled off the crate. Then another. Everyone went quiet. Velvet Villain looked down. Then back at the Warden. “…This is getting difficult to explain.” Banana Bandit burst out laughing. Campfire Convict pointed at him. “HE DID IT!” Velvet Villain grinned, grabbed the last cupcake, and took off across the yard. The Warden sighed. “Add it to the report.”
