It was the hottest day Candy Jail had seen all summer. The yard was quiet. Too quiet.
The Warden narrowed her eyes the second she stepped outside. That was when she saw Watermelon Mayhem in the middle of the yard, grinning from ear to ear beside a giant pile of watermelon candy, cups, and a suspiciously dripping bucket.
“What exactly is going on here?” she asked.
Watermelon Mayhem threw his hands in the air. “Cooling system!”
Before anyone could ask what that meant - SPLASH! A wave of watermelon-flavoured syrup sprayed across the yard. Banana Bandit slipped.
Jailhouse Java yelled. Campfire Convict tried to protect his marshmallows.
Cold Case Mint stepped back just in time.
The Warden stood very still, now wearing a few bright pink splatters.
Watermelon Mayhem smiled nervously. “In my defense... it was supposed to be more refreshing.”
There was a long silence. Then Banana Bandit started laughing. Then Jailhouse Java. Then everybody else. Even the Warden gave up and laughed.
By the end of the afternoon, the whole gang was sitting in the yard with watermelon candy, sticky fingers, and pink splashes everywhere.
Watermelon Mayhem leaned back proudly. Best. Mistake. Ever.
Confiscated item: One syrup bucket and six sticky cups
Warden’s note: “Do not let him run summer activities again.”
